Parent Resources

This page helps families stay informed and confident from registration through the end of the season. It covers key policies, communication expectations, and travel guidance so parents know what to expect, where to find answers quickly, and how to support their player and team the right way.

Interested in becoming a Billet Family?

Billet families play a vital role in the development and success of hockey players who relocate to pursue higher levels of competition. More than simply providing a place to live, billet families offer a safe, supportive, and welcoming home environment that helps players navigate the challenges of being away from their own families.

For many young athletes, a billet family becomes a second family—providing guidance, encouragement, structure, and emotional support throughout the season. Their commitment allows players to focus on their growth both on and off the ice while developing independence, responsibility, and life skills.

The relationships built between players and billet families often last well beyond a single season, creating lifelong friendships and memories. By opening their homes and hearts, billet families make a lasting impact on the lives of young athletes and are an essential part of a successful hockey program.

We are incredibly grateful for the families who volunteer their time, energy, and homes to support our players and help strengthen our hockey community.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are the backbone of our hockey community. From helping organize team events and tournaments to coordinating fundraisers, managing team communications, assisting with travel arrangements, and supporting game-day operations, countless tasks are accomplished because parents generously donate their time and talents.

Parent involvement benefits more than just the organization—it directly impacts the players. When athletes see their families actively supporting the team, it fosters a stronger sense of community, accountability, and pride. Volunteer efforts help create memorable experiences, build lasting friendships, and contribute to a positive culture that extends far beyond the rink.

LOCKER ROOMS

The Cleveland Barons are committed to providing a safe, positive, and respectful environment for all participants. As part of this commitment, we adhere to USA Hockey's SafeSport Program, which helps protect athletes from abuse, bullying, harassment, hazing, and other forms of misconduct.

The locker room is an important part of the hockey experience, helping players build friendships, develop leadership skills, and strengthen team culture. Our locker room policy is designed to promote a safe environment, protect player privacy, and support the positive development of all athletes.

TRAVEL

Cleveland Barons teams participate in a variety of travel schedules, ranging from local competition to regional tournaments and multi-game events throughout the season. To ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, the organization has established travel policies and guidelines that align with USA Hockey SafeSport standards.

These guidelines are designed to promote player safety, minimize one-on-one interactions, reduce the risk of misconduct, and provide a positive experience for all athletes, coaches, and families. By following these travel policies, we help create an environment where players can compete, develop, and enjoy the game in a safe and supportive setting.

PARENT EXPECTATIONS

The Cleveland Barons believe that parents are essential partners in creating a positive hockey experience. We ask all families to promote sportsmanship, respect, and fair play while supporting players, coaches, officials, and fellow spectators.

Parents should encourage effort, teamwork, and player development over wins and losses, respect the decisions of coaches and officials, and allow coaches to coach without sideline instruction. By modeling positive behavior and supporting a development-focused environment, parents help create a culture where all athletes can learn, grow, and enjoy the game.

Together, we can ensure that hockey remains a fun, rewarding, and respectful experience for every player.
