At Barons Hockey, our mission extends beyond developing elite hockey players. We are committed to building character, leadership, and lifelong success both on and off the ice. Through exceptional coaching, a culture of excellence, and a proven tradition of achievement—including more than 178 NCAA Division I alumni and 21 NHL draft picks—we provide athletes with the tools to reach their highest potential.

ABOUT THE CLEVELAND BARONS
Since 1993, the Cleveland Barons have established a tradition of excellence, developing some of the top hockey talent in the country. With more than 178 NCAA Division I alumni and 21 NHL draft picks, our program has become one of the premier development organizations in amateur hockey.
Today, we continue that tradition by fielding both Barons Elite and Barons Black teams at nearly every age level, providing opportunities for players to compete and develop at the level best suited to their growth. Barons Elite teams compete in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League, while Barons Black teams follow highly competitive independent schedules designed to maximize player development and team success.
Our success is built on a simple philosophy: focus on long-term player development. We challenge our athletes to embrace hard work, compete with purpose, and continuously strive to improve. The result is a proven pathway that has helped countless players advance to junior, collegiate, and professional hockey while developing the life skills necessary to succeed beyond the game.
As legendary Barons coach Tim Alexander often said:
"We are going to make you do things you don't want to do, so that you can become the player you want to be."
That philosophy continues to guide our program today.

Elite Coaching
The strength of our program begins with our coaching staff. The Cleveland Barons are proud to have some of the most experienced and qualified coaches in the region, each committed to helping players reach their full potential. Our coaches focus on age-appropriate development, skill progression, hockey IQ, and character, creating an environment where players are challenged to improve every day.
Commitment to Development
Player development is at the center of everything we do. Every Barons player receives a minimum of three hours of team practice ice each week, along with an additional dedicated skills session focused on skating, puck control, hockey sense, and individual development. Our structured approach ensures players receive the repetition, instruction, and attention necessary to maximize their growth.
High-Level Competition
The best players deserve the best competition. Barons Elite teams compete in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League, one of the premier youth hockey leagues in North America. Barons Black teams compete against strong regional and national opponents through carefully designed independent schedules that provide meaningful development opportunities throughout the season.
Culture of Excellence
At the Barons, we develop more than hockey players. We develop leaders. Our culture emphasizes accountability, teamwork, resilience, respect, and perseverance. We challenge players to embrace adversity, step outside their comfort zones, and build habits that will serve them long after their playing days are over.
Strength & Conditioning
Development doesn't stop when players leave the ice. All Barons teams receive off-ice training through Strength Fitness & Therapy, located within the Barons Arena complex. Working with certified trainers, players focus on building strength, improving speed and agility, increasing mobility, and reducing injury risk through age-appropriate training programs.
